Year 6 braved the ice and the cold to have a great day being evacuees at Holdenby House in Northamptonshire. The children experienced what it would have been like to have been evacuated to the countryside, learning about rationing, how to make do and mend and what to do in the event of an air raid. Being shut in an Anderson Shelter was a particular favourite activity! The children also made ‘murkey’ (mock turkey) which made the most of the available vegetables in the absence of meat; the consensus was that it tasted great!
Thanks to the staff at Holdenby who made the experience so realistic and a special well done to the many children who dressed up. A memorable day out!
