Primary School PE & School Sport Funding

The government Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport are jointly providing additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools.

Southfields Primary School is expected to receive £9,060 so far this academic year to improve the provision of PE and sport within curriculum time and outside of curriculum PE.

The funds allocated to our school have been used to supplement two important areas of development in the school will primarily be used for:

  • The employment and training of 2 Sports and outdoor education Apprentices for this academic year (2016/17)

  • Renew of all sports equipment to ensure quality provision.

We continue to subsidise all after school sports and swimming through the pupil premium and our existing budget.

As a result of the new MUGA we have seen increased physical activity and year round outdoor PE. With specialist staff this year we will be able to ensure all children have the opportunity to utilize the MUGA with targeted games and activities. We will continue to employ specialist PE teachers to work across the school and help with the training needs of the apprentices.

The take up of after school sessions remains good but there are still places available. Children will be targeted to ensure they are not being put off attending by the small charge. If this is the case these children will be paid for.
