Welcome back to a new term!! Now that your child is in Year 4, they will have a fun, but challenging year ahead of them. The children have settled back to the new term well and have already risen to the challenges that being in Key Stage 2 raises. We have got an exciting term planned and this letter is to give you and your child an idea of the topics we will be covering this term in Year 4.
We shall be starting with place value and number and then building our skills in addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
Our English this term will be inspired by the following two Authors: Akala and Roald Dahl. Children will be given the opportunity to write a variety of different text types and for different audiences, including writing recounts, biographies, and stories.
Our topic this term are Sound and States of Matter. We will be working scientifically to investigate these topics.
During this term, all children will begin to learn the Djembe drums with Lucy. We will also develop our singing skills through our singing assemblies.
Children will be developing their skills in PE. Swimming will continue to take place on Tuesday. Children should wear the correct P.E kit to school every Friday.
Over the term we will be learning how to keep ourselves safe online and develop our computing skills to include coding.
Modern Foreign Languages
The children will begin their journey in learning Spanish. We shall learn about the country and where Spanish is spoken in the world.
Art work will be linked to the main topics and we will be concentrating on developing collages and textiles skills.
We shall be looking at Megacities from around the world and explore why so many people choose to live in them.
We will be encouraging the children to think about what it means to be a Hindu and Christian in Britain today.
This term the Roman Empire and Britain will be our main history topic. This will inform other areas of our curriculum such as Art.
Your child will bring home a reading folder every evening. Reading at home is the most important work that your child should do at home. It is important that they read independently as well as to adults. Please listen to your child as much as possible, even if it is only for five minutes. Reading journals should be signed each week to record both independent and shared reading.
Children should not be at school when unwell (whether symptoms are COVID-19 related or not. Please follow the the school guidance on Covid-19. For further information, see the school website: https://southfieldsprimary.com
Your child will need to come to school every FRIDAY in their PE Kit (tracksuit bottoms would be advisable as the weather is getting colder). They will wear this all day and it should be washed be fore the following week.
Please make sure that your child has a coat in school every day. We shall be using the outdoors as much as possible even when it gets colder.
