Year 6 have come together this week to discuss the growing issue of knife crime in the UK. From 2011 to 2014, knife crime offences were in decline, but since then it has risen and is currently at its highest. Home Office figures reveal 39,818 knife crime offences between September 2017 and September 2018. Sadly, this year has already seen a huge rise in the number of victims, some of those being from our local area.
This week, Year 6 visited ‘The Knife Angel’ which is currently installed outside Coventry Cathedral. Art may seem a strange way to try and tackle this terrifying trend, but as ‘The Knife Angel’ tours the country, there will be more children who see this incredible work, tell their classmates and share the anti-knife crime message it brings and we hope a new generation of young people will be willing to make a difference. We are very proud of how our children have responded to the discussions and the visit and they have produced some beautiful artwork, poetry and posters.
